-0168 lands on the Pegasus runway in Antarctica during a test
to figure out how to prevent the runway from melting and
turning to slush. Located on a freshwater glacier, the
runway sits atop 100 to 200 feet of ice, the Pegasus runway is
the main runway in Antarctica.

OPERATIONS
ENDURING FREEDOM (AFIE) -- Air Force reservists from the 97th
Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., and airmen
from the 723rd Aerial Port Squadron at Ramstein Air Base,
Germany, offload pallets of humanitarian aid from a C-17A
Globemaster III cargo aircraft at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on
Dec. 10,2001.
Two other C-17s dropped 17,220 HDRs, bringing the total number
of HDRs delivered to more than 2.3 million on Dec. 11.

Air Base Germany, Dec. 10, 2001 to deliver 12 pallets of
humanitarian aid supplies The aid was funded with donations
from American children after President Bush announced the
formation of America's Fund for Afghan Children in early
October.
